We collect or use the following information to deal with queries, complaints or claims:
- Contact details and anything you include in your message
In practice: website user information is collected through Google Analytics, and only if you accept cookies. Your name, email address and message are collected if you use the contact form. Your email is collected if you sign up for the cheat-sheet. Purchases are processed by Payhip, and we never see or store your card details.
Lawful bases and your data protection rights
Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful basis for collecting and using your personal information. Our lawful basis for everything above is consent: you give us permission after we’ve told you what we’ll do, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Your data protection rights include:
- Right of access – ask for copies of your personal information.
- Right to rectification – ask us to correct information that’s inaccurate or incomplete.
- Right to erasure – ask us to delete your personal information.
- Right to restriction – ask us to limit how we use it.
- Right to data portability – ask us to transfer your information to you or another organisation.
- Right to withdraw consent – withdraw your consent at any time.
Because our lawful basis is consent, the right to object doesn’t apply, but withdrawing your consent has the same effect. To make a request, email us using the address above; we’ll respond within one month. You can read more about your rights on the ICO’s website.
Where we get personal information from
Directly from you.
How long we keep information
- Email and marketing data: for as long as you’re subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask to be removed, your details are deleted from the list.
- Records of consent: kept as evidence for as long as we rely on your consent, and for a short period afterwards.
- Website usage data (Google Analytics): up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
- Cookie preference: stored in your browser until you change or clear it.
- Financial and transaction records: kept for 6 years where required by law, for example for tax.
Sharing and overseas transfers
We don’t sell your data. It’s handled only by the services that run the site: Google Analytics (usage statistics), MailerLite (email), Payhip (purchases) and Namecheap (hosting). Some may process data outside the UK, including in the EU and the United States, under safeguards approved for UK data transfers.
Cookies
- Your preference: when you choose Accept or Decline, that choice is saved in your browser so you’re not asked again. It isn’t used for tracking.
- Google Analytics cookies (such as
_ga): set only after you click Accept. If you Decline, they’re never set.
You can change your choice any time using Cookie settings in the footer.
